Samsung Galaxy S26 Leak Reveals Major Shakeup: No Base or Plus Models in 2025 Lineup

Samsung appears to be shaking up its long-standing S-series formula, with strong leaks suggesting the end of the traditional base and Plus models. Since the Galaxy S20, Samsung has consistently released its flagship phones in three tiers: base, Plus, and Ultra. However, internal data from a leaked One UI 8 build — now backed by the GSMA (Global System for Mobile Communications Association) — suggests that the upcoming Galaxy S26 series will instead consist of the S26 Pro, S26 Edge, and S26 Ultra. Notably, the “base” S26 will now be rebranded as the Pro, which could either be a name change or signal a genuine spec boost — potentially raising the entry-level price.

While the Ultra continues to hold its premium status, Samsung’s decision to replace the underperforming Plus model with another Edge variant is a bold one, especially given the lukewarm response to the Galaxy S25 Edge. Still, it seems Samsung is doubling down on the slim Edge design. The renaming of the base model to “Pro” was further validated by an updated GSMA database listing, where model SM-S942U1 — previously labeled as Galaxy S26 — now appears as Galaxy S26 Pro, signaling a firm commitment to the new branding. With at least six months to go before the expected launch, these early changes show that Samsung might be preparing one of the most significant structural shifts in its flagship history.
